The top three, best beginner banjos in 2019 come down to all of them being made by Deering banjo company. Deering only produces the best quality instruments. They really care about what the instrument sounds like, instead of just producing inexpensive instruments to sell. When it come to an affordable banjo you have to cut the cost somewhere, and Deering has done this in a way that does not affect the tone and playability.
First up we have the Deering Goodtime open back. This is the least expensive of the Goodtime series, and is great for clawhammer style or even sitting around the house using finger picks. A fun instrument to travel with that has great tone, stays in tune and gives the beginner all they need to start playing the banjo and sound good while they are learning.

The big brother to the Goodtime open back is the Deering Goodtime 2. This is the same banjo but with a resonator. The resonator gives the player using finger picks more volume that might be needed in a band setting or for someone who just wants to have more playing by themselves. The is our best selling banjo. As you can also remove the flange and resonator of the banjo to make it an open back if you decided to play clawhammer style or just want a change.

Not everyone wants a natural finish
As both the Goodtime Openback and Goodtime Two have the natural wood finish and guitar style tuners. The alternative to this would be the Artisan Goodtime Openback and Artisan Goodtime Two. Both of these banjos have the same rim as the standard (blond) Goodtimes, but have a dark stain finish, planetary tuners and a separate fingerboard with pearloid inlay.
