Stelling Golden Cross Maple
The Golden Cross was the ninth Stelling banjo to be built, the first one to have the trademarked Stelling peghead shape. It was named for Tony Golden, who rode motorcycles with Geoff and bought the first Golden Cross. This model was also honored to be the banjo played by the late great Don Reno for the last ten years of his life, and was featured on many of his fine recordings with Bill Harrell. Originally made of walnut, the current Golden Cross features fancy curly maple with the golden sunburst stain and purfling inlaid along the neck and resonator binding. A popular option is the engraved truss rod cover which features this banjo owner’s name.

All Stelling models feature the Tony Pass 600TS Old Wood rim. This wood has been lying on the bottom of Lake Superior and other bodies of water for over 100 years and could have been hundreds of years old when it was cut down. After a special kiln drying process, this wood is in better than new condition (acoustically speaking) because of the age of the wood combined with the microbiological action to which it was subjected for so many years. It has been said that Stradivarius took advantage of the same process for his violin wood, but for a much shorter time (perhaps only a few years). This rim, installed in a Stelling banjo, is awesome. It has been compared to prewar banjos in such a superior way for tone and volume that it is now standard on all new Stelling banjos. Includes a deluxe TKL emerald green crushed-velvet, plush-lined case.
