About this banjo
Presenting a fresh take on Deering Banjo Company’s top-selling banjo, the Goodtime Deco banjo embraces the essence of the American Art Deco era from the 1920s, highlighting an innovative inlay pattern and peghead etchings. The hardware shines in an exquisite US Bronze powder finish, which is not just hypoallergenic but also resistant to tarnishing. What’s more, it includes a cozy armrest, and, true to its legacy, the Goodtime banjo is proudly crafted in the U.S.A. It retains the signature sound and ease of play that it’s known for, and is light for easy portability.
The Goodtime Deco leads our refreshed Goodtime Deco Collection and is evolved from our best-seller, the Goodtime Openback, adored since its debut in 1996.
The revamped Goodtime Deco stands firm on the foundational 4 tenets of the Goodtime Ethos: Quality, Tone, Value, and Playability. It dazzles with an appearance influenced by the iconic American Art Deco movement during the 1920s, when the banjo was America’s cherished musical gem.
Exquisitely styled, the Goodtime Deco banjo flaunts classic Art Deco-centric hardwood motifs, complemented by an etched Art Deco design on the peghead.
The hardware is enhanced with our signature US Bronze powder finish, amplifying the banjo’s Art Deco appeal.
To cater to popular opinion, each Goodtime banjo now embeds a unique serial number delicately marked on the peghead’s reverse. This individual stamp lends an aura of uniqueness, mirroring the precision in every Deering Goodtime Deco banjo.
Currently, the Deering Goodtime banjo maintains its charm, being a preferred choice for musicians across proficiency levels, attributed to its finesse, unparalleled sound resonance, and cost-effectiveness. It remains a top recommendation for novices!
The essence of the Goodtime banjo’s acclaim lies in its fabrication, using premier materials like the 3-ply violin-caliber maple rim and an ultra-stable hard rock maple neck. This ensures it resonates with a deep, clear sound. The Goodtime tailpiece is our proprietary design, with the tension hoop being molded on-site. We’ve also handpicked superior tuners to align with the Goodtime’s value proposition, rounding it off with premium banjo strings.
The focus on distinction ensures that playing the Goodtime banjo is a breeze, marked by its slender neck, low-string action, and refined frets. Whether novice or adept, its user-friendly design is sure to impress.
Every Goodtime banjo is handcrafted by adept artisans in our sole workshop in San Diego, CA. Weighing in at just 4 pounds, it’s apt for all ages, allowing for easy travel and play.
Even as you graduate to a more advanced model, we’re confident that your reliable Goodtime will always be a favored pick.

I would recommend them to anyone and everyone
Fantastic banjos sold by fantastic people. I have bought two banjos from Banjo.com and about to buy my third from them. These guys are just great people to go business with; knowledge, banjo players themselves, and just super nice. I do business with them because they are not just looking to sell my any banjo. They provide great input based upon what I want and need; not just what cost the most. I would recommend them to anyone and everyone interested in getting a banjo.
Highly recommend them to others
Barry at Banjo.com helped me make a great choice on purchasing a new banjo. He answered my emails and phone calls promptly. After a few conversations I went with his newly designed Bish Line Coal Dust. I ordered it and he kept me updated on its progress. It arrived in perfect condition and it's even nicer than he described. I will keep Banjo.com at the top of my list for any future purchases and would highly recommend them to others. Thank you again to Barry and his staff.
I couldn't be more pleased with this lovely instrument and the customer service
I recently purchased a Deering Sierra mahogany open back banjo from Banjo.com. Since I live in north Georgia, only two and one-half hours from the home of Banjo.com, I was able to visit the Banjo Barn where Barry give me the opportunity to "test drive" several banjos and he assisted me in narrowing down to my final choice. I must say, I couldn't be more pleased with this lovely instrument and the customer service I received from Barry and Banjo.com. Thank you!

Railroad Spikes
We can add these as a free service when you purchase a banjo from us. When you add this banjo to your cart just select that you want the capos. What is this? When you use a standard capo on your banjo fretboard, fretting strings 1 through 4, you’ll need to capo the 5th string separately. The 5th string starts at the 5th fret. If your standard capo is on the 2nd fret, you also need to capo the 5th string two frets higher, at the 7th fret. We recommend installing railroad spike capos on frets 7 and 9 (A and B). We install them on the fretboard just under the 5th string, an idea that was developed and used by Earl Scruggs himself. We use them, and so do most of the professional players we know. When you’re playing, you don’t really notice the spikes because they’re out of the way, but they’re always there when you need them. Simply slide the 5th string under the spike. When you’re done, slide it out.
