We are excited to be the first Deering dealer to receive a Vega Vintage Star.  This banjo is a work of art with its detailed inlay and unique wooden armrest. The antique hardware compliments the dark stain and the sound is incredible. Check out our demo below to hear this banjo.

    Railroad Spikes

    We can add these as a free service when you purchase a banjo from us. When you add this banjo to your cart just select that you want the capos. What is this? When you use a standard capo on your banjo fretboard, fretting strings 1 through 4, you’ll need to capo the 5th string separately. The 5th string starts at the 5th fret. If your standard capo is on the 2nd fret, you also need to capo the 5th string two frets higher, at the 7th fret. We recommend installing railroad spike capos on frets 7 and 9 (A and B). We install them on the fretboard just under the 5th string, an idea that was developed and used by Earl Scruggs himself. We use them, and so do most of the professional players we know. When you’re playing, you don’t really notice the spikes because they’re out of the way, but they’re always there when you need them. Simply slide the 5th string under the spike. When you’re done, slide it out.

      This is a really stellar instrument, both in terms of appearance and tone. You can feel the quality of the instrument from the first notes. It’s sort of the opposite of the usual bluegrass banjo look…far more understated and subtle. The natural, warm look compliments the warm traditional sound very well. I really like the wood arm rest. This is my first banjo with a frailing scoop and I’m really loving it. It provides a really wide range of tones depending on your right hand position. It is exactly what I was looking for in an upgraded banjo.

      Barry and banjo.com provides great customer service. I’m very happy with my decision to purchase from him. UPS screwed up my delivery and ended up sending the banjo back to Barry, but he immediately had it back in the mail headed to me. Thank you again for working with me on that! It arrived complete with railroad spikes and set up perfectly.
